Troubleshooter English IPA

Mike Isley (president of Prairie Homebrewing Companions) named this beer in honor of Jamil Zainasheff, who came through with some skillful troubleshooting during the brew session. Brewed during Episode 23: Hoppy Halloween with Jamil Zainasheff.

Batch size: 11 gallons (split into two carboys -- see Yeast below)

SG: 1.065

IBU: 56.6

SRM: 11.6

Grain Bill

  • 22.0    lb Maris Otter
  •   1.0    lb Crystal 60
  •   0.75  lb Crystal 120
  •   0.75  lb Biscuit
  •   0.5    lb Victory

 

Hops

  • 2.5 oz Northern Brewer - 60 min
  • 1.5 oz Fuggle - 15 min
  • 1.0 oz East Kent Golding - 15 min
  • 1.0 oz East Kent Golding - 0 min

 

Rest at 152F for one hour. 

Raise temp. to 170F for mash-out.

 

Yeast

Mike notes: The yeast didn't pan out as planned.  Planned on using London Ale (1028) and Special London (1968) but ended up pitching Safale S04 and Thames Valley (1275).

The above recipe is based off of 80% efficiency.
